Key Responsibilities

As a Technical Riding Inspector, you will be responsible for ensuring our customers get the best possible service through an excellently maintained fleet. You'll travel on our trains and around our network to support the maintenance of our outstations and support failed units by providing high level mechanical/electric expertise. You will report to our TrainCare Centre Production Manager and work alongside our maintenance team to keep our trains in service and fault find when things go wrong. It’s an exciting time to join our engineering team, as we are transforming and developing skillsets, to help us get the right people, on the right units, at the right time. You’ll need to work a range of shifts, from the early hours of the morning and including nights, plus weekends and Bank Holidays, it’s vital that you’re flexible and that you live within 60 minutes’ drive of our Neville Hill TrainCare Centre, Leeds. Key responsibilities: This is a varied and challenging role, but here is a taste of what your day-to-day activities could include: You’ll attend call outs to failed trains, to help our customers get on the move quicker Helping to improve the reliability of our trains, through regular maintenance and servicing You’ll produce reports and provide feedback to other colleagues and work as part of the bigger team You’ll play a big part in our outstations to complete fault finding and repairs of our rolling stock Ensuring compliance with all working instructions, standards and rules and regulations, whilst assisting in the refuelling and service of our trains in various TrainCare Centres.

Essential Requirements

You need to have good technical knowledge, be Apprentice trained or have an NVQ level 3 –in mechanical/electrical qualification (or equivalent) and have previous experience working on train systems, including electrics, hydraulics, air systems, diesel engines and fault finding. What’s really important is an ability to work as part of a team and to be able to think on your feet, in sometimes demanding situations. We’re also looking for the following: Excellent communication skills Confidence to build relationships with a wide variety of people and teams The ability to prioritise and be adaptable when priorities change, often at short notice Experience in managing workload and showing initiative where necessary Someone who is hardworking and confident in their engineering abilities to work with the wider teams Our selection process also includes a safety critical medical assessment, that covers general health, vision, hearing, colour vision and drugs and alcohol testing.
