Key Responsibilities
*This post is fixed-term fixed term for 5 years. After a minimum of 3 years, and on satisfactory completion of progression criteria in line with the University's Academic Career Pathway Framework (ACP), the post-holder will have the opportunity to progress to an open-ended Lectureship.* ● Conduct an innovative programme of research and scholarship that is recognised nationally/internationally in terms of originality, significance and rigour. ● Disseminate research findings through conference presentation, publication in recognised, high-quality, peer reviewed journals and produce other appropriate outputs (for example patents). ● Be actively involved in professional activities such as refereeing papers, organising conferences, committee membership and involvement with professional bodies. ● Contribute to, and build, cross-research group and cross-department activity. ● Assist with developing funding strategies, pursue income generation and manage external research grants. ● Develop and deliver high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate teaching as required. ● Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate projects. ● Co-supervise postgraduate research projects. ● Plan and prioritise your own work, and forward plan up to three years. For teaching plan up to one year ahead unless there are significant teaching programme changes or new courses, then plan for up to two years ahead of their introduction. ● Contribute fully as a teacher, researcher and leader, fulfilling at least six of the criteria (four core and at two additional criteria) of the University’s Academic Career Pathway Framework (ACP).
Essential Requirements
- A PhD in a relevant discipline (or equivalent experience). - Evidence of high-quality research in cybersecurity. - Ability to contribute to the cybersecurity of engineered systems (e.g. smart grids or smart cities) or engineering-related systems (e.g. manufacturing systems or robotics applications), and to collaborate with specialists in those domains. - High quality publications in leading peer-reviewed venues. This must include journal publications. - Evidence of potential to generate research income. - Potential to lead and manage a research team. - Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, including the ability to communicate complex theories and problems effectively to undergraduate and postgraduate students. - Ability to effectively present findings at conferences and other research meetings. - Ability to work effectively and collaboratively within teams. - Proven ability to work to and meet deadlines. - Excellent organisational skills, including the ability to plan and prioritise own daily work and forward plan up to three years for some tasks. - Evidence of the potential to become an effective teacher. - A strong commitment to excellence in research and teaching.
