Key Responsibilities
For the delivery of the Computer Science curriculum to our students: ● Conceive of, create and deliver innovative approaches to teaching, learning and assessment in the areas of computer science and software engineering, with a particular focus on the core computing curriculum, inclusive teaching and assessment methods, and students’ transitioning into the University environment. ● Keep abreast of developments in best industrial practice in the industry to maintain relevance to course materials. ● Devise new activities to ensure that the student experience is engaging, up-to-date and relevant. ● Assess student work and provide effective feedback to students, in line with University standards and Faculty conventions. In support of our Inclusive Computing agenda: ● Help to develop educational relationships with interested stakeholders (schools, industrial partners, and other national bodies and institutions). ● Develop measures to evaluate the impact of outreach and stakeholder engagement activities and produce reports and other documentation in order to communicate this both internally in the department and the university and externally to potential donors and contributing organisations as well as schools. ● Assist and support the department in delivering on its broader aims of improving digital skills at Levels 6 and 7, providing leadership in some areas and working on making Computing more inclusive Activities that span both responsibilities: ● Manage existing and develop new industrial relationships for the department at both a local and national level, to involve them in the inclusivity activities of the department. ● Act as a source of teaching and outreach excellence for the staff in the Department and the wider Faculty of Engineering. ● Be responsible for leading and guiding a team of Graduate Teaching Assistants and Student Ambassadors who deliver laboratory classes across a range of subjects and support outreach work. ● Assist the technical and administrative teams in timetabling, scheduling and supporting activities throughout the year. ● Plan and prioritise your own daily work.
Essential Requirements
-A good honours degree in computer science or a closely related subject. -Experience of delivering high quality computer science teaching, ideally with a teaching qualification. -Experience of assessing student achievement in a variety of ways. -Experience of teaching computing subjects, including elementary programming topics and object-oriented software development. -Ability to oversee a number of projects, ensuring that each project is managed and delivered to a high standard on time and on budget. This includes ability to assess and organise resources, and plan and progress work activities and work without close supervision. -Effective written and verbal communication skills, including report writing skills and experience of delivering presentations. -Ability to create clear instructions to encourage student engagement and learning. -Ability to assist others to devise, build and deliver innovative and effective teaching solutions. -Ability to develop creative approaches to problem solving, particularly in delivering new and effective practical experiences for computer science and software engineering students.
