Key Responsibilities
• Analyse the complete requirements of control and instrumentation projects in accordance with information obtained from production, technical and maintenance departments, self-led investigations into the existing Control System software and hardware, thus developing the scope of the project. • Consider the existing operation of the plant’s PLC, SCADA and instrumentation systems including backup systems for of all programs and configurations in the event of failures, to determine the requirements for future-proofing the infrastructure. • Working closely with the Control & Instrumentation Engineer to replace legacy obsolete PLC equipment with modern state-of-the-art systems. • Co-ordinate preliminary engineering designs for inclusion with new processes and equipment, taking into account all relevant engineering standards, safety codes, environmental legislation and post commissioning maintenance requirements. • Liaise with the Facilities Engineer, Projects & Facilities Manager, Maintenance Manager and Manufacturing Managers in the preparation of project designs, to ensure that all modifications and upgrades conform to the operating requirements of the business. • Carry out safety assessments on all projects under your control, taking appropriate action from the findings as necessary. Supervising the installation of all equipment relating to the project, ensuring that all precautions are taken to protect persons and plant in accordance with the safety rules of LMT. • Prepare detailed cost estimates for the EICA aspects of all mechanical based capital and revenue projects for inclusion in ‘Request for Authorisation (RFA)’ documentation. • Prepare detailed tender documents and specifications for submittal to external contractors. • Develop and issue operating and maintenance manuals from a control and instrumentation perspective, organise training to allow the full handover of projects to production and maintenance departments. • Formulate and keep up to date, electrical standards for use on all electrical project and maintenance work carried out on the LMT UK site, taking into account all accepted industrial standards and legislation. • Any other duties within the post holder’s competence as requested.
Essential Requirements
• Minimum GCSE passes in Maths, Science and English. • HNC/HND in Electrical/Control Engineering • PLC Programming Course• Minimum 3-4 years’ experience in a control and automation role within a heavy plant industry • Experience of a range of industrial instrumentation • Hands on approach to problem solving • Experience of using MS Office; Word, Excel, and Outlook • Must have ability to use own, priorities tasks and work well under pressure. • Strong knowledge of chemical plant processes. • Time Management and leadership skills • Good fault finding/diagnostic skills • Contractor liaison and supervision • Ability to establish good working relations at all levels • Self-motivated with the ability to use their own initiative, prioritise tasks and work well under pressure • Methodical with a strong attention to detail and focus on accuracy of data • Professional approach to work and when dealing with internal and external customers • A team player who demonstrates a high level of commitment, adopting a flexible and positive approach • The role holder must have the ability to work unsupervised with good time management skills in a fast paced, pressurized and challenging environment • Committed to the Company’s core values of Customer First, Integrity, Accountability, Innovation, Personal Development and Teamwork
